There was a time when this feast day would have really bothered me. To put such emphasis on one who is not God - not divine at all - certainly that takes away from the honor, glory, adoration and praise due to God and God alone.
I realize now, this is as far from the truth as it can possibly be. To honor Mary, the first of all disciples, the only one to say yes to every element of the purpose for which she was created - that kind of veneration of Our Lord's mother can only make us honor, glorify, adore and praise God more perfectly.
She shows us how to be His disciples. Mary, most holy of disciples. Mary, most perfect of all creatures. Mary, the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ - he who is fully God, fully man.
Mary, we honor your name, above the name of any other created being.
Show us how to love your Son more perfectly.
