Who can define the word Charism? Raise your hands...if you know!

I never heard this word until I became Catholic. Suddenly, it was everywhere. Do you know what it means? It's an awesome word. More importantly, do you know if you have a charism of your own?

(You can find the answer to today's question in the comment box. Go ahead and take a look. Then, leave a note describing what your charism is."

  1. Here's the definition of a charism:

“A charism can be defined as a gift of the Spirit, given to a person in a specific historical context, so that this person can initiate an experience of faith that might in some way be useful to the life of the Church."

So, with that in mind, what's your charism? My charism is probably writing, although there are other charisms which the Holy Spirit has given to me that also equip me to share the Good News of the Gospel. For example, there is a charism given to mothers so that they can become the first teachers of the Faith to their children.

What's your charism? It's a really exciting question because it holds the key to becoming what God wants you to become and the venue for doing what God wants you to do.

  2. Is prophecy a charism? I know things that I shouldn't and feel compelled to share with others what I have received. And the way I share it is writing.

  3. It is a gift of the Holy Spirit. All gifts that are from the Holy Spirit are for the building up of the Body of Christ. CCC 799 - Whether extraordinary or simple and humble, charisms are graces of the Holy Spirit which directly or indirectly benefit the Church...

CCC800 - Charisms are to be accepted with gratitude...and are to be used in keeping with charity...

CCC801 - Discernment of charisms is always necessary. (Submitted to the Church's shepherds)

Hope that helps, Sharon! God bless you! All for the glory of God!
